Marvin started carving in 1994. After carving simple carvings for about six months he took some private lessons from a wonderful carver named Steve Brown from Madisonville Kentucky. It was then that he was introduced to the world of caricature carving, and, by golly, Marvin was hooked! In the next few years he took classes from Stu Martin, Gary Falin, Debby Edwards, Jon Nelson, and Phil & Vicky Bishop.
Over the years Marvin designed a variety of carvings: Cowboys, Indians, Santas, Wizards and just plain funny folks! He sells and uses roughouts of these carvings for classess.
Marvin also sells the easy, step-by-step instructional eye-study-stick which you can purchase at your local Woodcraft Store.
In the last ten years Marvin's won numerous first place ribbons and best of show in the 2006 Wonders In Wood show in Evansville, Indiana. Marvin's been teaching at the John C. Campbell Folk School for the last seven years. For the last two years Marvin's been one of the five caricature instructors at Renegade Woodcarvers Roundup in Lebanon, Tennessee. Marvin also teaches many classes in and around his southern Indiana home of Evansville.
